Rock Climbing : What to Expect
Rise and shine! The day begins early as the cool morning air envelops the cliffside and the golden rays of the rising sun cast a warm glow on the landscape. The sound of cars entering the parking lot signals the arrival of my rock climbing clients, eager to conquer the mountain.
As a seasoned guide with over a decade of experience leading climbing trips of all levels, I understand that the first climb can be both exhilarating and intimidating. That’s why I take the time to explain what to expect and help alleviate any anxieties that may arise. Our Denver Climbing Company locations are carefully chosen for their stunning scenery and varied routes, from Denver to Evergreen. Areas include Boulder, the Flatiron, Golden, Clear Creek Canyon, and Staunton State Park to name a few.
Before we begin, I ensure that everyone has the appropriate gear. I provide all equipment if needed, including climbing shoes, a harness, a helmet, and a belay device. It is important to have the right gear that fits properly and to dispel the myth that climbing shoes should always be painfully tight. A well-fitting shoe should be snug but comfortable, allowing for optimal performance.
We will then hike to the cliff, enjoying the fresh air and natural surroundings. This moment allows space to practice mindfulness, transferring your attention to gratitude for everything around. I then go over the basics of climbing, including how to tie knots, use the belay device, and communicate with your climbing partner. Safety is of the utmost importance, and I use redundant systems at the belayer and rope anchor.
Close your eyes and picture the gently undulating hills. Listen to the sound of the leaves rustling and the crunching of gravel under your feet. Take five slow, deep breaths and breathe in the fresh, natural scents of your surroundings. You are exactly where you need to be in this moment.
As we tackle the wall, you'll quickly realize that climbing is both a physical and mental challenge. Your body will be challenged as you use your arms and legs to pull yourself up, but your main focus is solving the puzzle. You'll need to focus on your movements, stay present in the moment, and overcome any fears or anxieties that may arise.
Reaching the summit is an accomplishment that brings a sense of excitement and pride. You’ve challenged yourself both physically and mentally, and have overcome any fears or anxieties. The journey doesn’t end here, though – as you climb more often, you’ll continue to build trust, strength, and confidence. And with my guidance, you’ll be well-equipped to tackle any climbing experience in your future. Request more info to get signed up!
